Germany's Employment Act (Arbeitszeitgesetz) limits working hours to 8 hours/day (up to 10 with compensation). Contracts must be provided in writing and probation periods cannot exceed 6 months. Collective bargaining agreements (Tarifverträge) cover most sectors and often set wages above the statutory minimum of €12.41/hour.
Workers are entitled to at least 20 days of paid annual leave (most employers provide 25–30). Statutory sick pay is paid by employers for 6 weeks, then by health insurance. Works councils (Betriebsräte) provide employee representation at companies with 5+ staff.
